This spectacular jeweled gown has been owned in similar versions by Marlene Dietrich and Mrs. Charles Chaplin and the cocktail version of this gown is in the collection of Palais Galliera, Fashion Museum City of Paris.

WINTER WONDERLAND

The white evening gown is a favorite at Decades. Celebrities love the command white has on a red carpet. Socials love a white gown for a winter ball like this past Saturday's Winter Wonderland Gala at the Botanical Garden in the Bronx. And of course we love our cool brides who come to Decades for a special vintage gown on the most memorable day of their romantic life.

Can one garment fill the wishes of all three of the different women above? Yes, it can! This Valentino Haute Couture one shoulder gown has an elaborate nude embroidered one shoulder top that connects to a rich white silk crepe de chine wrap skirt bottom with bow belt that may be positioned in a myriad of ways (front center/hip/back). To own a piece by the Maestro of Italian Fashion, The Last Emperor of Haute Couture, the legendary Valentino Garavani is to own something that no longer exists. Valentino retired in 2007, but the label carries on to great success by Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli, who design both ready to wear and Haute Couture at Valentino today. Ruby and Pearls and Gold....O My!

We're sure Dorothy would have been thrilled to wear a Chanel necklace en route to visit the Wizard of Oz. Lucky for us she had ruby slippers so we can have the dazzling ruby and pearl Chanel necklace! This post might have been a wee bit late but this necklace was in demand in the styling world so we could not get it photographed until now.


Today is all about versatility, and what fits more perfectly into this picture than a necklace that can be worn several different ways? Chanel seemed to understand this better than anyone. Stamped 1984, this necklace is made of gold metal with a naturally distressed patina and is adorned with faux mother of pearl and ruby poured glass.

NEED TO BE NARROW

The title of this post is a disclaimer. Yes, you do need to be narrow to fit into this spectacular amethyst Givenchy Haute Couture organza halter gown with wrap skirt. When this first arrived, a very svelte client salivated, but we could not compress her size two torso into this size zero purple masterpiece. So there you have it: be a size zero and buy me! When the high neck of the dress turns around a lower back with a trail from the halter mimics the gathered waist with extended sash. This late 70s design is the epitome of timeless elegance as envisioned by the aristocrat and living genius, Hubert de Givenchy.

FIT TO BE TIED

The original owner, a young and prominent social fixture in the 1970s, could not recall exactly how she wore this Halston 30 years ago. On the hangar, the ties deceptively made it look like it might be a halter dress. After further examination we realized this gorgeous chiffon gown was actually a stunning strapless that ties in the back! This revelation sparked a pleasant trip down memory lane with tales recounting her glamorous Park Avenue life where she went on to virtually "own" the 1980s.
