BLACK AND WHITE PARTY

Posted on 12:24 PM by feeqwfqewef
It will happen in your lifetime and it won't ever be as great as Truman Capote's legendary black and white ball of 1966. Regardless, you will be invited to a black and white themed fete at some point in your fashionable life and we have your back!

This Valentino Night black and white silk organza gown reminds us of a 1930s evening dress with it's fluttering layers of fabric. The slim straps reveal a sexy open back. The bust is fitted and the skirt has volume that begs for a twirl around the ballroom's dance floor. It may not be Truman Capote's party, but you will be dressed the part and just imagine that your companions are Frank Sinatra, Norman Mailer, and Lee Radziwill.

Valentino Night black and white organza tiered evening dress, c. 1980s. Marked size 6, modern narrow size 4SOLD

NOT FRANKENSTEIN AND JUST IN TIME FOR HALLOWEEN!

Posted on 12:46 PM by feeqwfqewef
Please do not get Arthur Falkenstein mixed up with Victor Frankenstein. These are two entirely different createurs and creators! (We know young couturier Arthur Falkenstein was probably teased something awful for sharing a similar name with the notorious figure of fiction). We love that this 1940s silk flocked dress has arrived fro Halloween weekend, however. aside from the spooky name (and against our mantra to not dress in vintage and look like you are in a Halloween costume) we say wear this dress on Halloween as your costume! Channel 1940s Lauren Bacall and go out and about as Hollywood Icon. Of course, on 1 November, you can wear this dress in a totally modern way - maybe shorten the length for a more 21st century fitted silhouette.

So, what about Mr. Falkenstein? He was an American Couturier on par with Sophie of Saks and Hattie Carnegie who is represented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and was a popular designer during Carmel Snow's reign at Harper's Bazaar, particularly in the 1940s and 1950s.

And what about the dress? A hatler of black silk with red flocked feather pattern, the skirt tapers for a fitted figure flattering silhouette so popular because of the fabric rationing during WWII. We topped the dress off with a dramatic monkey fur jacket. Drama!

Arthur Falkenstein black halter ankle length evening dress with red flocked feather pattern, shown with monkey fur jacket c. 1940s. Modern size 6 (may we suggest shortening the dress for a more modern length?)

Blass From the Past

Posted on 2:06 PM by feeqwfqewef
Who knew just a small town boy from Indiana, who at the age of 15 began selling his gowns, would become one of America's favorite fashion designers. Bill Blass, best known for his ability to design chic yet wearable clothes, really understood his client's needs and paved the way for everyday women to wear designer clothes day and night. Everyone from the iconic Veruschka (pictured below) to Jerry Hall could not get enough of Bill.

So today we bring to you a piece of American fashion history. An ultra sexy Bill Blass green silk jersey one-shoulder toga gown from the 1970's, just in time for the holidays! This sleek number drapes beautifully off one shoulder while exposing the other and is fitted enough to accentuate a woman's curves. The mink fur trim is the perfect icing on this delicious Bill Blass cake... yummy!

Chanel's Beauty

Posted on 2:23 PM by feeqwfqewef
Here at Decades we get to see some of the best vintage Couture gowns in the world. A few of these however, due to age and wear, need a little freshening up. Luckily we work with some of the best seamstress in town! After months and months of hand-sewing, they bring each of these dresses back to life.

Today is a special day because after 6 months of anticipation we have received this ultra classic Chanel gown from the 80's. Our amazing seamstress worked tediously to re-pleat each and every fold on the gown so that it looks like it's virtually fresh off the Paris runway. This gorgeous phoenix-from-the-ashes shapes the body beautifully and hugs the waist comfortably. All she is missing is her rightful owner.

Nothing Better!

Posted on 1:06 PM by feeqwfqewef
Nothing in the fashion world is as recognized as the ubiquitous Chanel logo. The renowned interlocked double C has become a universal trademark for one of the world's most timeless fashion houses.

"Simplicity is the keynote to all true elegance," was Mademoiselle Chanel's design guideline, which was easily transformed into a symbolic stamp that would represent everything the company stands for. Originally the logo belonged to the Chateau de Cremat in Nice, which was owned by one of Gabrielle's friends. The logo can still be seen around the Chateau including their stained glass windows and door knobs like the image shown below. It was known that Gabrielle would spend her holidays there and used the logo as inspiration for her own. Her love for the design grew and eventually the design was given to Gabrielle by the owner to be used as Chanel's official trademark in 1910, the rest is history!

... With that said we bring to you this classic Chanel double locked C necklace, with an intricate wave design within the double C, perfect for any occasion.

Chanel gold double locked C logo necklace. c.80's. Drop length 17". Pendant 1.5"x 2" SOLD
